How sober living works at Phoenix House
Phoenix House is a single household of men in recovery, not a facility. Residents share the kitchen, living room, chores, and responsibility for the home. What makes it work is the culture: we believe the environment a man lives in shapes his recovery as much as anything else.
House standards
- Drug- and alcohol-free, always. Regular screening protects the sobriety of everyone in the home.
- A live-in house manager is part of the household.
- Peer leadership. Residents step into leadership roles and help run the house, guided by trained peer leaders and a regular house council.
- House meetings and recovery activity. Residents stay engaged in their own recovery and show up for each other.
- Accountability without humiliation. Expectations are firm and problems are addressed early, but never in a punitive or shaming way.
- Safety first. Naloxone (Narcan) is kept in the home and checked monthly.
Is Phoenix House the right fit?
A good fit if you are:
- An adult man (18+) committed to staying sober. Trans men and non-binary residents are welcome.
- Coming from treatment, detox, or another sober living home, or simply ready to start fresh.
- Willing to follow house standards, participate in house life, and support the men around you.
- Able to pay the housing fee, or ready to talk with us about a payment arrangement.
Probably not the right fit if:
- You need medical detox or clinical care right now. Phoenix House is housing, not a treatment center. We are happy to point you toward local treatment options first.
- You are a registered sex offender. Every applicant is screened under our written residency criteria, which include a criminal-background review.

How to move in

- 3. Brief interview by phone or in person, so we both know it is a good fit.
- 4. Pick your move-in date. Pay the $200 move-in fee and your first week ($155) or month ($595), and you are home.
